The Big E approved for regional vaccination site

The Town of West Springfield includes the communities ofAgawam, Westfield, Southwick, Granville, and Tolland. Right now, the transportation building is being used for storage. Any day now, it will be completely transformed into a massive vaccination site for all western Massachusetts residents.

This is an experience that I think is going to be a little bit better than other sites that weve visited because our patient care is going to be more 1 to 1, said Carly Camossi, chief of operations.

There is still no start date yet, the town of West Springfield is waiting on supply from the state. But, once those doses are secured, the site can open immediately.

We will be ready to start within a week if we get shipments when the weekly Thursdays shipments come we will be ready, Mayor Reichelt said. He added that the accessibility of The Big E will make it much easier for those in western Massachusetts rural communities.

People can sign up through the states website but there is a sign-up website specifically for the Big E in the process.

Almost all officials involved in the site said that Big E is the most accessible place for western Massachusetts residents.

This is what we do, we process people this is by all means the most convenient and notable spot for people to be inoculated against this horrendous bug, said Gene Cassidy, president and CEO of the Eastern State Exposition.

The opening date will be announced soon and it is still unknown which vaccine will be administered as the town of West Springfield is waiting on supply from the state.

The vaccination site will be open to all Massachusetts residents.
